New To Hockey

Where To Start?

Ice hockey is an incredible sport and we'd love to help you get started. CSAHA is dedicated to growing the love of the game within our community and we offer many pathways to start out and continue to develop. Families can choose which path works best for their player and family.

Try Hockey for Free

CSAHA hosts two USA Hockey Try Hockey for Free events each year - one in February and one in November. We also host a Girls Try Hockey for Free event in August.

New players from 4 to 9 years old get to try hockey in a fun environment with experienced coaches while paired with a Tigers Hockey player. Equipment is provided with 1:1 support to help get participants fitted and ready.

CSAHA also hosts a USA Hockey Try Sled Hockey for Free event each July, with the Colorado Avalanche and other Colorado Sled Hockey teams.

Camps, Clinics and Teams

Players can register for Spring & Summer Camps, Summer Leagues, Skill Development Clinics, and for age & skill appropriate fall season programs.

Adaptive Hockey (aka Sled Hockey)

CSAHA's Adaptive Hockey program is designed to offer the opportunity for everyone to play ice hockey. It is open to anyone with physical or developmental disabilities over 7 years old.

No experience is required and equipment is provided as needed.

Players can register for the youth (17 yrs & under) or the adult (over 17 yrs old) team.

Learn to Play Hockey

CSAHA's Learn To Play Hockey program is one of the most supportive, affordable and fastest paths to preparing new players between 4 & 14 years old to join a team.

What makes our program stand out?

  • CSAHA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing the sport of ice hockey while making it more accessible to families.
  • No skating or hockey experience is needed.
  • Full sets of equipment and sticks are available for loan to players 4-9 years old.
  • Our program consists of six 1-hour on-ice sessions led by experienced hockey coaches on a full ice sheet.
  • CSAHA follows the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM). Players will have tons of fun while developing their hockey skills and love of the game.
  • Players are grouped by skill in Hockey 1, 2, 3 or 4 (see our Learn to Play Hockey page) to best support their learning and development. There are no prerequisites for participating in any level of the program. The goal is to get kids playing on teams as soon as they are ready.
  • Players learn teamwork, listening, perseverance and accountability in a fun and enthusiastic environment while building their hockey skills and confidence.
  • The skills learned in hockey and a team environment translate to school, play, other team sports and adulthood.
